With Tony Kirk

Background
Saturday 3:00 pm 5:00 pm

Radio Caroline: Tony was invited to join the station in 1987 but had to delay when the Ross Revenge’s 300 foot mast collapsed. He eventually joined in 1988, broadcasting on the 558 service to the UK and Europe.

Major events: During his time on Caroline, he faced threats of mutiny, carried out overnight mast repairs on deck during a force 10 storm, and was onboard when the armed Dutch police and British DTI raided the ship in August 1989.

Onshore contributions: In the 1990s, he was licensee for Caroline’s legal broadcasts, held its first satellite licence, and secured the station’s trademark against strong opposition. He was also a founding member of the Ross Revenge Support Group (Ship Management) and The Radio Caroline Partnership (Station Management).

Other radio work: Tony presented on UK charity stations and spent nearly 15 years with Hospital Radio St Helier, serving three years as Programme Controller.  He has also been hosting shows on the online station Albumheads.com since 2018.

Cinque Ports Radio: Tony joined Cinque Ports Radio in October 2021, where he hosts The Album Show on Saturday afternoons and also presents on Sunday afternoons. His show, Sixties After 6, launched in September 2024.

Music tastes: Tony’s preferences are eclectic, covering rock, pop, blues, classical, and much more.
