Growing up in Medway Kent I’ve always loved radio! I’ve now been in and around the radio industry for 39 years.. I’ve appeared on several radio stations with my various bands over the years…But my first ‘proper radio job’ was for Kent’s Invicta FM and Super gold that became Capital group way back in 1993!.. as an advertising Sales Exec. .. I loved it! I came from a sales background in Photocopiers and fax machines in London and Surrey .No one ever wanted to see me for an appointment!.. But when I first hit the phones to sell advertising on Invicta FM my diary was full of appointments for two weeks ! within an hour ! People actually wanted to see me! Being bands and I still am! I loved messing about in studios and it wasn’t long before I was recording sketches and stuff. After a few years ..the Medway FM licence was available so I worked tirelessly to help win the licence by market research and gaining financial backers for the station etc Following a few years spell in London radio working for the post launch / branding of Country 1035 AM RTM – relaunch rebrand to Millennium, hoaning my broadcasting skills with ‘The Saturday Set’ show on Millennium FM London and before Fusion FM /Time FM. We won The licence for Medway FM, so we built the station launched the station it was a huge success ..we won a few awards on the way too! But it wasn’t until till we sold the station to GWR Radio that the big boss of GWR took me off of sales and made me do the Breakfast show cause he loved a fishing report I was doing in air Saturdays!
(I know right crazy ! But Someone had to do it) So we relaunched ‘Medway’s Mercury FM’ with me on the Breakfast show then I really learnt the pressure and total joy of presenting along with my evening show as well.. I’m absolutely chuffed and over the moon to be asked to bring The Paul Johnson Saturday Set’ kicking and screaming into 2026! on CPR UK come and enjoy the ride with me !
My favourite presenters in radio who I respect and had big influences on me are BBC ‘s Nicky Campbell, GLR and BBC’s Six Music’s Gideon Coe, Simon Mayo, and of course John Peel and Bob Harris
